History Underfoot is a way finding system that is designed to support the ongoing restoration initiatives and allow people to enjoy the riches of Al-Ismaelia. It aims to manifest the beauty of Downtown Cairo, by indulging its pedestrians in an unforgettable walking experience.

The project invites people to explore the history of the place in an unusual journey that takes them back to the 19th century and walks them to our modern time, revealing the cultural fusion that used to reside in the city. Follow the tile is the concept behind History Underfoot. It creates a stylistic guide to all the monumental establishments in Al Ismaelia district. It links all the buildings with the same architectural style with specially customized route. The design of the flooring of each route is purely inspired by the architectural style it belongs to and is created by the ornaments that the corresponding buildings behold. It hence creates a scenery that emphasizes the architectural richness of the old buildings scattered throughout the area.
